Robert Staley has spent eighteen years as a working
photographer, producer and assistant based in Los
Angeles. During that time, he’s had the extremely
good fortune to have worked with and learned from some
of the premier shooters in the business — William
Claxton, Richard Noble, Michael O’Neil, Phillip
Dixon, Arthur Grace, James Woods and Michel Comte are
just a few of the major influences who helped to shape
Robert’s style and craft.
Tens of thousands of air miles later, Robert has worked locations as vast and exotic as China, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Poland and Peru, for a portfolio of clients as diverse and distinctive as Fortune Magazine, Continental Airlines, Sony Pictures, Home Depot, American Express, Sports Illustrated and Volvo.
It’s been an incredible journey — for both Robert Staley the man as well as the photographer. Often the challenges and experiences along the way have been mind-boggling in both their depth and complexity, as well as their unexpected humor. “I have found myself face to face with CEO’s, Saudi Princes to Thai hill tribesman and Quechua Indians in Peru. People with everything and people with just what they need. They all share a common curiosity, How do I look? ”
Most recently, Robert has been focusing on catalog work — shooting for Early Winters in Peru and Sahalie in Thailand this year alone. This is in addition to work for Eddie Bauer, REI and L.L. Bean, which has keeps him traveling and shooting the last few years. His next shoot will be in Costa Rica shooting outdoor clothing and adventure lifestyle this November.
